Artist's Bit
A bit about me
My name is Margret Lohr also known as Margret Johnson or Albright but go by Maggie.
Born in Texas, raised in Kentucky and living in Arkansas, I have loved drawing and painting as long as I can remember. I was amazed at the box of crayons I would receive for school and fell in love with the colors within them and those around me.
I absorb myself in these colors so my art is very characteristic. I am a self-taught painter who has no formal education but uses many mediums such as pencil, acrylic and oil paint, watercolor, and pastel. I portray an arrangement of colors in the spectrum in most of my work.
My subjects vary and I am often inspired to create but as a hobby, because I work at the local Walmart.
In my younger years (ALBRIGHT) I did many fantasy work such as gargoyles and dragons absorbing myself in that world.
As JOHNSON I focused more on landscapes and nature with some still life, understudying with Eva Haley who was very patient with me and taught me so much about concepts, technique, color mixing and layout. I am still her student to this day, there is so much to learn!
Currently we are using pallet knifes to create beautiful pictures and it is a tricky technique for me for sure!
But I like to challenge myself as my art varies in wide ranges of styles and subjects. For me it is a great stress reliever and escape from the day-to-day monotony. I also dapple in beadwork and jewelry making and those pieces can be found at the Spring River Art Gallery where I am also a member
I use glass seed beads mainly in my jewelry with monofilament or fishing line as thread. I am inspired by beadwork and colors of the indigenous peoples. This is also my heritage and I feel more connected and grounded when working. I use a contemporary style that can be worn day to day for any occasion and can often be found wearing what I make.
I also enjoyed using these glass seed beads to create pens for the Five-River Bee club. Flowers and bees attached to a pen used to write with, will hopefully last longer than the ink they have inside.
As a newlywed (LOHR) I look forward to seeing and encompassing all I have learned as a self-taught artist and creating more works. My goal is to bring my passionate personality and natural emotions to each piece and creating more art for others to enjoy as much I do
I constantly grow as an artist willing to try and excel in my endeavors
I currently enjoy teaching or instructing at the ACNA where I am a member
I plan to continue my art journey as I find it fulfilling and rewarding
